In 2000, a reporter and farmer from laise county, lei yixing, discovered the mysterious Zhangye Danxia landform and reported it in a newspaper.

People are shocked when they see these photos, this amazing landscape has attracted many tourists to explore this rare sight. At present, this magical land has become a popular tourist attraction — Zhangye danxia landform geological park, or Zhangye danxia landform geological park for short, which was listed as a world cultural heritage by UNESCO in 2009.

Zhangye danxia landform park is famous for its spectacular mountains of colorful rocks — a mix of red, yellow, blue, white and green… After more than 24 million years of hard precipitation, the minerals of different colors settled to form the strata. Over time, these heavy layers of rock compressed into rocky mountain ranges, and then the collision between the indo-australian and Eurasian continental shelves produced a slight, slow ripple that crumpled the mountains into some incredible undulating shapes. At the same time, wildness, rain, sunshine and time have combined to shape the unusual shapes of mountains, with different colors, patterns and sizes

To travel in Zhangye Danxia geomorphological and geological park is to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Danxia on a tall sightseeing platform, and to go hiking on the only way from one sightseeing platform to another. In order to help tourists better appreciate the Danxia landform in Zhangye, five sightseeing platforms were built on the tops of some high mountains. Visitors need to climb some winding stone steps to reach the top of the platform. As Zhangye Danxia geomorphic geopark covers a large area of mountains and valleys, the distance between the five platforms is more than 20 kilometers. Therefore, it is not recommended to walk all the way in hot, dry, and intense sunlight. Visitors can take the tour bus and change between different stations.
