Itinerary
A 2.5-hour drive will take us from Guilin to the exotic Ping'an Village, a gateway to an exhilarating hiking adventure. As you ascend, the slate-paved stairs carve a path through the mountainside village, offering a zero-distance encounter with wooden, mortise-and-tenon structured houses that etch unforgettable memories into your consciousness. The hiking unfolds like a tapestry, revealing contour-map-like terraced rice paddies at every turn, a breathtaking sight that seamlessly blends with the vibrant Zhuang people crafting straw sandals and colorful insoles, a symphony of culture in motion.
From the No.1 viewing platform, take a captivating turn to the right, traversing a now-concrete road that guides you toward the famed Yao village of Dazhai. In a mere twenty minutes, a jade-green reservoir graces the left, a lifeblood for villagers and rice paddies alike. Venture further into a verdant landscape, a two-hour odyssey through pine and fir woods, meandering along ridges and through rice fields, until you reach Zhongliu, the Yao village marking the halfway point between Ping'an and Dazhai. Just before the village, a gurgling creek in the gorge beckons as an ideal spot for a rejuvenating rest.
Despite the two-hour stretch beyond Zhongliu, fatigue dissipates in the face of breathtaking scenery. Terraced rice paddies, majestic fir tree woods, and gracefully standing bamboos line the path, creating a visual symphony. With luck on your side, chance upon Yao people toiling in the fields with their buffalo, their weathered yet friendly faces against the lush-green backdrop a perfect illustration of the harmony between humanity and nature.
Approaching the small village of Tiantou, perched on the mid-level slope, panoramic vistas unfold, revealing the enchanting landscape below. Continue the descent, and a valley adorned with black-roofed houses comes into view – welcome to Dazhai, the crowning destination of our hiking escapade!
As the day concludes, a 2.5-hour drive seamlessly transports you back to the enchanting city of Guilin, leaving you with a heart full of memories and a soul enriched by the harmonious dance of nature and culture.
