Hongcun Village
Hong Village, relying on the Lei Mountain and facing the South Lake, with human and natural landscapes here and there is hailed as a village built inside a picture of sceneries. The streams, lakes, spring and the residences around the Hong Village form a mythical picture of a buffalo, thus this ancient village is considered as a lucky place where amazing may happen.
The water system around the village is well developed to the extent that it enjoys a name of the village equipped with the best waterways. As the villagers constructed an irrigation canal which intervening every house in the Song dynasty, every household in the village has easy access of the canal. The waterways of the village were supposed to be designed to provide resource of washing water.
The village features extraordinary. It has nice scenery - simple but elegant, a fine mixture of old houses, green hills and clear creeks, and enjoys the name "a village in the Chinese painting". All the buildings follow local architectural style, have exquisite carvings and are magnificent symbols of its time. They were built with fine craftsman-ship that is regarded as the best in China. The Halls of Chengzhi, Jingxiu and Dongxian are very typical of that era. With marbled ground, black tiles, fresh red lanterns, elaborate wooden carvings and august archways, they are reputed as 'the Folk Imperial Palaces'. Among them, Chenzhi Hall is a big and gorgeous residential building, including two living rooms, one Buddhism prayer section, one Majiong room and a opium cabinet, etc.
Fantastic lake landscapes and splendid mountain sceneries together with the old but elegant architectures form a marvelous picture in this centuries-old historical cultural site, providing a peaceful resort for you.
