Xidi Village
Xidi Village, has experienced almost 1,000 years of history, is a peaceful wonderland where people are hospitable and easygoing, customs are pure and simple, architectures are elegant and splendid and cultures are colorful and special. There are more than 200 ancient buildings, which have been well preserved as what they were centuries ago around this harmonious village.
Xidi Village is one of the most representative scenic spot of ancient Hui architectures. Built in Yuanfeng Period in North Song Dynasty (about 900 years ago), it is 8 km from Yixian county center, with 700 meters long and 300 meters wide. Xidi Village boasts 124 well-preserved dwelling houses and 3 clan temples dating back to the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In front of the village is a landmark - A glorious memorial archway in honor of a native, Hu Wen guang, who was a prefect governor in Ming Dynasty.
With its delicate structure, elegant layout, beautiful decoration and deep culture content, the ancient building in Xidi Village fully demonstrates its rarity in ancient Chinese architecture. When you walking into any of these houses, you can find elegant courtyards and gardens, refined doorframes made of black marbles, stone carvings of flowers, birds and beasts, brick carvings of pavilions and human figures as well as wood carvings, colorful paintings and frescoes. Houses enjoy fine wood-carving, brick-carving and so on, reflect profound local culture and customs. It is called "the Land of Peach Blossom" or "Home In Wonderland" for its beauty and tranquility. It is also called "a treasure house of ancient resident architecture" for its well-preserved ancient houses and archways in Ming and Qing dynasties.
