Climate and Weather
Located in the southern part of the Mongolian Plateau with an average altitude of 1,000 meters, Baotou belongs to a semi-arid continental climate. The average highest temperatures here hit 21 C, the annual average temperature is 6.4 C; the lowest in January of - 10 C to - 30 C; the highest in July of 16 C to 45 C; the daily temperature difference of 10 C to 16 C; and there is great difference between south and north.
The optimum time to visit the city is from late spring through the summer, when the temperature is fairly warm. The city is little troubled by rain, with annual precipitation at 312mm.

National Folklore
Nadam which Meaning entertainment or games, held in between July and August, is the grandest traditional festival of the Mongolian herdsmen, which mainly include wrestling, horse race, and archery, in addition to other activities, such as polo, horsemanship, track and field, singing and dancing, trade talks, and awarding ceremonies.
Women wear agate, pearl, coral, jadeite, gem, gold, silver, and jade. Men wear calpac and loose, long-sleeved, choker robe buttoned on the right or left fastened with a belt; While young women also dress in robes, fastened with red or green belt.
A hill laid with stones is regarded as the Mountain God. Every mid-May, the herdsmen workship and pray for the God.
