Climate and Weather

Kaifeng is blessed with a temperate continental monsoon climate with distinctively divided four seasons with annual average rainfall of 670mm; adequate sunshine, frost-free period 213-215 days. The average annual temperature is from 14.24 to 14.5C.

Local Festivals and Folk Custom

Kaifeng Ancient Capital Lantern Festival is held from Feb. 13th to 15th. During the festival, there are various kinds of activities of traditional artistic lantern show, drum beating and cock fighting.

The Kaifeng Chrysanthemum Fair is held between Oct. 25th and Nov. 11th in Kaifeng, during which time people can admire various species of chrysanthemums, enjoy the performance of the local customs, and participate in economic and trade activities.

It might be hard to believe. But there is indeed a large Jewish community in Kaifeng. The ancestors of these Jews were said to have arrived in China from Persia and India during the Tang Dynasty.

For centuries, the Jews of Kaifeng uttered the prescribed daily and Sabbath prayers kept their religious holidays and observed strict diets.
