Climate and Weather
Being located in the central area of China, Wuhan is far away from the ocean, which makes it is hard to reject the heat. Especially in summer, Wuhan is as hot as an oven, thus Wuhan, together with Nanjing and Chongqing, is compared to an oven. The summer is 135 days long, and the average temperature is 37 ℃ and highest temperature is up to 44 ℃.
The best time for traveling to Wuhan is Spring and Autumn, when is not too cold neither too hot.
Local Festivals and Folk Custom
Sakura Festival
Wuhan is a charming city with lakes and mountains here and there, especially in spring. On the arrival of April, the blossoming Sakura appeal to thousands of people for near and far. Together with the lakes and green trees around, it seems more attractive, making people reluctant to leave. Since the year of 2003, the yearly Sakura Festival has been held in Wuhan University in April. This festival is a kind of scenery entertainment of the Wuhan people.
Plump Blossom Festival
The plump garden in Moshan Mountain is the place where the yearly Plump Blossom Festival is celebrated. On the arrival of the spring, the plump flowers around the East Lake will be in full bloom, appealing to thousands of people. During the festival, the exhibition of paintings and photographs of plump blossom is available.
Crossing River Festival
In summer, usually in June, this festival will be hold in the Yangtze River. Just like in Dragon Boat Festival, on this Crossing River Festival Boat racing, drift on boat and carnival will push the festival to the highest point.
International Horse Racing Festival
It is a special festival celebrated in October, during which people hold sports meeting, tourism activities and horse racing culture exhibition to meet the residences’ need of the traditional culture and the sport spirit.
