Ancient Dapeng Fortress
Dapeng Fortress, with a length of 1200 m and a height of 6 m, was built in the Ming Dynasty (1364-1644). The Dapeng fortress, with thousands of bluestone blocks, was of great strategic significance in the defense against the invasion of the Japanese pirates, which is where the abbreviation of Shenzhen, Pengcheng City, is derived from.
Covering a total area of 110,000 square meters, Dapeng Fortress is hailed as a huge fossil, from which you can learn a lot about Chinese history. Splendid ancient gate, the magnificent General mansion, folk houses with antique flavors, and old streets paved with stone plates are the well-preserved materials that can tell you the special culture and customs of itself.
The Dapeng Fortress Museum was established in the year 1996 with a view to managing and researching historical relics as well as boosting tourism. Later in 2001, the site was taken under state protection, a Good place for China Private Tours, and now it attracts international attention. In June 2004, a group of World Bank experts began researching the fortress to help with protection. Shenzhen is expected to obtain special loans from the World Bank for the protection of cultural relics if a report on the fortress is adopted in about two months.
